About this deal

I have eaten this soup on its own but to make it more filling I have also paired it with the following:

First, saute' your onions until soft. Then add-in your seasonings and fully coat onions for about 60 seconds. (Photo 1 & 2) a serving. Not a big difference, but for those with a low daily intake it can make some difference in the end. T o save time on all the spices, outside of the salt and pepper, you can use a store-bought curry powder. If you go this route, the flavor profile will be different depending on the brand you use. You would need to taste test this as you go. Using 1 carrot is ~63cal (152g), celery is ~16cal, broth can be 30cal (veggie cube), oil alone is a lot and around 120cal for just the 1 tbsp.I would never put the words “cook” and “me” together. I also am not a very adventurous eater. However, I’ve been wanting to branch out and learn how to cook something for dinner other than pizza with a store bought crust. If you serve split pea soup straight out of the slow cooker, it will be tasty but very thin, with the consistency of thin gruel. This is a normal and expected part of the process.

Mild: This is a great curry recipe that the whole family will love. It’s very flavorful but not spicy, so it’s great for little mouths and those that are sensitive to heat. Essentially, it is spiced lentil stew. Rich, warm spices like turmeric, cumin, and coriander fill my kitchen when I’m cooking dal. And the husband always loves it. Layla does too! She eats it up with no problems at all. When seeking out affordable vegetarian meal ideas, look for inspiration from ethnic cuisines, like Indian, that don’t rely on meat to make meals delicious. Dahl, a traditional Indian lentil dish, utilizes flavorful spices and aromatics to transform basic commodity ingredients into complex and delectable dishes. Enjoy this version of dahl with brown rice, couscous or naan bread for a balanced and satisfying vegetarian meal. Slow cooker yellow lentil dahl Lime Juice- Adds an extra pop of freshness to the sauce! It can be left out if you don't have any on hand. Add Nut Butter- To make the sauce extra rich and creamy, stir in 2 tablespoon of smooth natural peanut butter, cashew butter or almond butter at the same time as the lime juice.

Whisk your “sauce” ingredients. Start by adding your coconut milk, broth, peanut butter, soy sauce, garlic and ginger to your slow cooker. Whisk these together and then add all of the spices. My easy slow cooker dal is perfect for a busy lifestyle. This cold weather makes me want to eat food that will warm me, both with the flavour of spices and with the heat from a long slow cook. It will still be delicious and tender on high, but it will fall apart when you go to shred it if you cook it on low. Finish with veggies & serve. Lastly, stir in the red bell pepper and peas, and cook this on high for another 10-20 minutes until the bell pepper is tender. Garnish with cilantro, serve with rice or naan and enjoy! Tomorrow I’m making it without the potatoes, I will adjust the spice proportions accordingly and I will serve it over sweet coconut rice.

Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the onion, garlic and fresh ginger and saute until the onion is softened, about five minutes. Coconut Milk- Use canned full fat coconut milk for this recipe. I don't recommend using lite coconut milk as the sauce may be too thin. Pepper: We usually use freshly ground pepper, but I have made this soup with white pepper on occasion, and really like that too. LET ME PLAN YOUR DINNERS!
